The company seeks a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer will plan and implement processes and equipment which improve the utilization of facilities, equipment, materials, and personnel in order to increase efficiency, reduce cost and improve quality. They will interface with design engineering on the development and release of their next generation solar power generator and will facilitate the production ramp in manufacturing.

Essential Functions
  • Develops manufacturing processes that promote safety, ergonomics, quality and manufacturing efficiency resulting in lower total costs for the facility.
  • Works closely with Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, and Design Engineering in the development of new products, focusing on automation opportunities and cost reduction in manufacturing; may include oversight of tooling plans and capability studies at key suppliers.
  • Utilizes CAD system to develop tooling and fixture designs as needed to support production.
  • Develops manufacturing methods, routings, labor standards and cost analysis to promote efficient use of equipment, labor and facility layout. Quickly resolves issues with routings and/or manufacturing processes when identified.
  • Responsible for researching and making recommendations on new equipment, technologies, and processes which support the organization’s goal to maximize efficiencies, reduce manufacturing costs and/or improve quality. Creates and supplies required information and data to complete Capital Authorization Requests for related equipment purchases.
  • Designs and implements robotic assembly cells, including the integration of vision systems where appropriate.
  • Proactively leads the organization in use of Lean methodologies to improve and streamline manufacturing processes. This includes use of Pareto Charts, Value Stream Mapping, Fishbone Diagrams, Spaghetti Diagrams, and leading Kaizen events which support the organization’s continuous improvement goals.
  • Designs and utilizes process controls to maintain consistent manufacturing processes that eliminate defects. 
  • Develops manufacturing work instructions and then trains and supports the production team so they can properly execute those instructions.
  • Ensures all manufacturing safety regulatory policies and procedures are implemented and maintained at all times. 
  • Partners with Quality in eliminating root causes and reducing occurrences of defects in the manufacturing process.  
  • Supports health and safety programs within the facility by actively identifying and implementing improvements in equipment and processes.  
  • Stays informed concerning new manufacturing technologies and equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Additional Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in manufacturing engineering
  • Knowledge of motion control, robotics, vision systems and automation required
  • Knowledge of stamping and progressive dies a plus
  • Capital equipment design/specification experience 
  • Excellent working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
  • Experience supporting the rapid growth of manufacturing operations is a plus
  • Possess excellent computer, math and problem solving skills
  • Experience with SolidWorks 3D design software preferred
  • Experience working with ERP systems, including understanding of bills of materials, routings, shop floor scheduling, and production costing
  • Possess a proven competence in process development, process documentation, and project leadership
  • Self-directed, displays a high energy level, able to adapt to changes in a positive manner
